This course includes a field trip to aboriginal communities in the Kimberley region in the northern part of the province of Western Australia. Non-nursing students usually take an upper-division theology or philosophy class, the required class, and two other courses, chosen in consultation with the Director of Studies Abroad. Nursing students take one or two nursing classes and three or four core classes or electives, including the required AL 375.Prerequisites for non-nursing students: Theology 101 and Philosophy 150.
Located on the Western coast of Australia, Fremantle is a port city to the Indian Ocean containing 19th century English heritage and is thirty minutes from the capital city of Perth. The city lies on limestone hills with a sand plain to the east with eucalyptus trees that are important to the Aboriginal traditions. There is something for everyone in this vibrant city; outdoor pursuits including jet boat rides and kite surfing to festivals and street performances of the live arts. While in Australia, students have the opportunity for a week long outback excursion, as well as trips to Southern Australia, a wildlife reserve, and historical tours.
Students will live in the Hotel Cleopatra, a residence hall, on the university campus in Fremantle (the port city for Perth, Western Australia). The campus is close to a shopping district, fresh food markets, restaurants, coffee shops, and the beach. Perth is 15 minutes away by light rail. Students have access to full kitchen and dining facilities, and have a weekly food allowance. A residence director and a resident assistant from UP will live on site with the students.
